October 31st - November 4th 2011, Marrakesh, Morocco in Ryad Mogador Htel, Agdal . 1st International Meeting on Ion Channel Signaling Mechanisms : from basic science to clinical applications (ICSM 2011).

This meeting on "Ion Channel Signaling Mechanisms: From Basic Science to Clinical Application" will take place from October 31st untill November 4th 2011 in Marrakesh, Morocco.
Ion channels are involved in every aspect of cellular physiology, and abnormal ion channel function has devastating consequences for the immune and vascular systems, brain, heart, kidney and other organs. In the past few years, major advances in the ion channel field have brought this area of research closer to fulfilling its full potential. Current research efforts fall within the following categories: 1) Basic understanding of ion channel activation and regulation at the molecular and cellular levels; 2) Integration of this basic knowledge into the physiological function of whole systems or organs; 3) Use of animal models to understand the contribution of ion channel dysfunction to disease; 4) Drug discovery efforts aimed at identifying specific drugs targeting ion channels to treat human disease.
This 2011 meeting will bring together world-class researchers from academia and industry that are experts in the above mentioned aspects of ion channel research and encompassing the spectrum of biochemistry and biophysics, molecular and cellular physiology, whole animal physiology and translational medicine. It will allow basic scientists and clinicians to learn about the latest advancements and trends in ion channel research, the emerging human diseases where ion channels are involved and the current drug discovery efforts targeting ion channels.
Beyond the obvious benefits of scientific exchange of ideas, this international meeting will provide a culturally enriching platform that brings together people from around the world with different cultures, views and philosophies. 08-10 Décembre 2011, Casablanca, Maroc. 5èmes Journées Internationales d’Etude sur les Lipides "JIEL 2011" qui auront lieu les 8-10 Décembre 2011 à Casablanca. Cette manifestation est co-organisée par la SMEL (Société Marocaine pour l’Etude des Lipides) et la SFEL (Société Française pour l’Etude des Lipides).

Les JIEL 2011 traiteront de tous les champs impliquant les corps gras et les lipides avec pour cette édition un éclairage particulier sur les « lipides marins ». Les JIEL 2011 seront l’occasion de faire le point sur les connaissances actuelles et de dégager des perspectives dans le domaine des lipides et corps gras.

Des développements récents démontrent que de nouvelles molécules lipidiques marines peuvent avoir des activités biologiques ayant également des implications dans les domaines de la nutrition et de la santé. Pour pallier les problèmes environnementaux, énergétiques, et de préservation de la biodiversité marine, la production d’acides gras à partir des microalgues fait également l’objet de recherches très actives. Tous ces points seront abordés lors d’un worshop dédié aux lipides marins.
L’importance des corps gras et des lipides tant au niveau nutritionnel que pharmacologique présente également un intérêt croissant notamment en terme de prévention des pathologies chroniques telles que les maladies cardiovasculaires, le cancer, le diabète, l’obésité et la neurodégénerescence... C’est pourquoi ce programme intéressera aussi les enseignants-chercheurs en médecine, les médecins praticiens notamment nutritionnistes.
La cinquième édition des JIEL est co-organisée par la Société Marocaine pour l'Etude des Lipides (SMEL) et la Société Française pour l’Etude des Lipides (SFEL). Pour animer ces journées, nous avons sollicité des chercheurs nationaux et internationaux de différents horizons ainsi que des industriels pour traiter en profondeur les différentes questions d’actualité dans la thématique et présenter les dernières innovations en terme de recherche et recherche/développement. Cette édition des JIEL 2011, comme les précédentes sera aussi l’occasion d’encourager les jeunes chercheurs à présenter leurs travaux de recherche dans le domaine des lipides et des corps gras. Pour toutes ces raisons, nous vous invitons les 8, 9 et 10 décembre 2011 dans le cadre de la 5ème édition des JIEL, à vous joindre à nous à Casablanca, ville mythique et grande métropole marocaine ouverte sur l’atlantique, associant subtilement tradition et modernité.
